The Oaxaca Tourism Board has made significant strides in establishing direct air connectivity with the United States. In collaboration with United Airlines and Aeropuertos Mexicanos, they have successfully introduced the first-ever direct flight from George Bush International Airport in Houston to Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
According to Grupo EuroAmerica’s news release, this historic partnership positions Puerto Escondido as an emerging global travel hub. The new route offers seamless connections through United Airlines’ extensive network in the US, linking passengers to key cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, San Antonio, and Chicago.
Scheduled to commence in April 2025, the weekly Saturday flights will be operated by Mesa Airlines, a partner of United Express. This development is expected to enhance travel convenience for visitors seeking to experience Puerto Escondido’s unique charm.
Notably, Puerto Escondido’s annual airport traffic has experienced a remarkable surge of 132% since 2019, with nearly one million passengers annually. This growth underscores the destination’s appeal as both a popular surf spot and an attractive location for travelers from diverse backgrounds.
By facilitating direct air travel, the Oaxaca Tourism Board aims to further boost tourism in Puerto Escondido, capitalizing on its growing popularity among international visitors.
