The migrant caravan that left the Chiapas border with Guatemala on Sunday, the 21st, arrived this morning in the Oaxacan municipality of San Pedro Tapanatepec, after walking for 12 hours and covering a 44-kilometer route from Arriaga, Chiapas.

According to estimates by immigration authorities, the caravan is made up of about 1,200 men, 500 women and 400 children, who show signs of their long journey, since they are exhausted, sick and with sores on their feet.

Protected by personnel from the National Guard (GN), some of the migrants settled under the two domes in the center of Tapanatepec, and others were distributed in the streets of the town.

Medical and nursing personnel from the National Institute of Migration (INM) began to provide the first consultations to pregnant women and minors who have fever and diarrhea.

Exhausted, the migrants received bottles of water, cookies and cans of tuna from the Grupo Beta staff, who will accompany the migrants on their journey through Oaxacan territory, as will the GN and state police.

The migrants informed the federal and state authorities that they will spend the night in San Pedro Tapanatepec today and considered it likely that tomorrow they will resume the walk on the Pan-American Highway to Santo Domingo Zanatepec, a 24-kilometer journey.
