MEXICO CITY.- Morena has presented a proposal before the Chamber of Deputies with the objective that the Government of Mexico request the repatriation of the remains of former president Porfirio Díaz from the Government of France.

In the request made by deputy Daniel Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, it is argued that the former president declared while alive that his wish was to be buried in Oaxaca, specifically in the renowned Basilica of Soledad.

General José De La Cruz Porfirio Díaz Mori is one of the most important figures in the history of Mexico, more than a century after his death, a large number of the contributions and works that were built during his Government continue to be present in our country.”

During a press conference, the legislator highlighted the achievements of Porfirio Díaz in the transformation of Mexico, especially in the consolidation of institutions and the expansion of the railway system.

Many think that it was the worst thing in the country, you simply must recognize the history, I greatly respect what happened in 1910, but someone wrote history to take over a movement that was the best for Mexico. We just have to review history, but in honor of that history, I believe it is necessary to repatriate the remains of General Porfirio Díaz,” he stated.

When asked if this initiative could be considered contrary to the image of Benito Juárez, who is widely valued by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Congressman Gutiérrez argued that both leaders complemented each other in the history of Mexico.
