An indigenous woman gave birth to a baby in the bathroom of a public hospital in Oaxaca, a fact for which her family accused medical negligence.
The 19-year-old girl went to the emergency room of the San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec municipal hospital for abdominal pain.
According to the victim’s family she was denied immediate medical attention and she was kept under observation.
While she waited for her uterus to dilate, the woman went to the bathroom, where she went into labor and gave birth.
The young woman held her son in her hands until medical personnel arrived to help her.
The family announced that they will file a complaint for the delay in medical care, in addition to refusing to sign the discharge.
The Oaxaca Health Secretariat, for its part, rejected negligence and detailed that the baby weighed two kilos and is stable.
The Oaxaca Human Rights Ombudsman opened an investigation.
