The Night of Radishes returns to Oaxaca

Oaxaca de Juárez.— On the eve of the 125th Edition of the traditional “Noche de Rábanos”, this next December 23 in the Zócalo of the city of Oaxaca, more than 100 gardeners from the state, state and municipal authorities, participated in the beginning of the tuber harvest.

Through social networks, the local government indicated that as part of the Oaxaca Programa Forestal, Governor Salomón Jara, accompanied by the municipal president of Oaxaca de Juárez, Francisco Martínez Neri, as well as officials of the Government of the State of Oaxaca, and gardeners, harvested radishes, which will be exhibited in the 2022 Radish Night contest.

The state government highlighted that this year 18 tons of the tuber will be harvested, which will be used to sculpt figures that will be exhibited at the Night of Radishes.

The Secretary of Tourism, Saymi Pineda Velasco, pointed out that this celebration will leave a great economic benefit for the city of Oaxaca, which currently reports 47% hotel occupancy.

She added that in November more than 132,000 arrivals were registered at the Oaxaca International Airport; the figure is projected to be exceeded in December.
