“No project can be above the well-being of mother earth and the well-being of Oaxacan children,” said local deputy Horacio Sosa Villavicencio.
Oaxaca de Juárez.- The local deputy Horacio Sosa Villavicencio made a call to the communities of the state to expel the Coca-Cola company, in order to privilege the health of children and in favor of the environment.
“No project can be above the well-being of mother earth and the well-being of Oaxacan children,” said the member of the LXV Legislature in a video posted on his social networks.
The legislator, the main promoter of the so-called Anti-PET Law, recalled that a few days ago the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) struck down the reforms made by the Oaxaca Congress to the Law for the Prevention and Comprehensive Management of Solid waste.
With this, the prohibition of the sale, distribution or use of disposable bottles of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), as well as disposable containers and packaging of expanded polystyrene (styrofoam) was null and void.
“Today we ask the communities to continue this fight, expelling the Coca-Cola company from the communities, because we have to privilege the health of our children, the well-being, the common good and our planet. That is why we ask to take actions where we prohibit the sale of this type of product, “explained Sosa Villavicencio.
The congressman, who along with four other deputies of Moreno extraction have regrouped in the so-called Parliamentary Group of the Fourth Transformation, has made multiple public statements after the Court’s setback against the Anti-PET Law.
Among them, it has pointed out that the resolution of the SCJN violates the autonomy of the country’s federal entities, by ruling that they do not have the power to legislate on prevention and prohibition with respect to the care and conservation of the environment.
