For two days, Oaxaca will host the Congress for the State Reactivation of Conventions and Events CRECE, which aims to position the entity as one of the main destinations for convention tourism in the country.
At the meeting, which takes place this September 8 and 9 at the Centro Cultural y de Convenciones de Oaxaca (CCCO), the particularities of this venue will be shown, and it’s potential for holding congresses, conventions, fairs and exhibitions “with the most demanding criteria in the market ”.
With the presence of the main exponents of the tourism sector from all over the country, the congress was inaugurated this Wednesday by Governor Alejandro Murat and will also have the propaedeutic of the certification in global competitiveness developed by “PCO Meetings México”, a 100% Mexican distinctive.
According to the Government of Oaxaca, this certification guarantees “the adoption of responsible and competitive practices in the processes and functions of the supplier in the meetings industry, which contributes to the professionalization of Oaxacan service providers.”
At the inauguration, Murat said that from the first day of his government, the objective has been to position the Oaxaca brand, since the entity has what it takes to stand out internationally thanks to its cultural, historical, gastronomic, and natural wealth.
“In Oaxaca today we walk with our heads held high after overcoming, together and together, challenges such as earthquakes and the pandemic. Thanks to the fact that in the government we advance hand in hand with the private initiative, Oaxaca is ready to assume leadership in many ways. Today we are the state that grows the most, and in which the income of households is strengthened the fastest. Because when you work as a team with society, results are achieved ”, emphasized the president.
Currently, the entity has positioned itself in the 7th place of the 10 best destinations for meeting tourism at the national level, and occupies 377th place in the world ranking and the 84th in Latin America, according to the 2019 report of the International Conference Association and Conventions (ICCA).
According to Begoña Hernández Mancilla, General Director of the Oaxaca Convention and Visitors Bureau, in the state, the tourism industry does not stop thanks to the work of thousands of Oaxacans who do not stop looking for a way to get ahead despite the pandemic.
“Today their effort is reflected in this Congress, possible thanks to the state’s value chain, who understood that today we have to be more united than ever, and who contributed with their service, staff, and supplies to make this great event possible. ”.
Gerardo Matienzo Pérez Esteves, president of PCO Meetings Mexico, highlighted the entity’s attributes as a meeting tourism destination and assured us that “where we go we will recommend Oaxaca because it is a place that seduces us. Now it is our mission to bring clients, fill hotel rooms and contribute to the reactivation of the economy. We contribute with our effort and Oaxaca rewards us with its culture ”, he said.

As part of the CRECE Congress, this Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday, September 9, specialized workshops and training will be held for the value chain of the meetings tourism sector.
Among the workshops are: Effective communication for the meetings industry in the digital age, How to design a successful corporate event ?, Program to attract congresses to the destination: candidatures; and Keys to sell to professional organizations of congresses, conventions and corporate events.
The Cultural and Convention Center of Oaxaca, is an architectural complex of more than 23 thousand square meters of construction in Las Canteras Park, it has a large room for 2 thousand people; multifunctional rooms; VIP rooms, restaurant, shop, lobby, sports fields, an open-air auditorium and a 4,300-square-meter fairgrounds.
Also present at the event were the senator of the Republic, Raúl Bolaños Cué; the local deputy Maritza Vásquez Guerra; and the president of the Board of Directors of Sponsors CRECE, Cibeles Ramírez Colmenares.
Oaxaca leads tourist reactivation
After a work meeting that was attended by the state secretaries Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, of Tourism; Juan Pablo Guzmán Cobián, from Economy, and Javier Lazcano Vargas, from Infrastructures and Territorial Planning, exponents of the national tourism sector, expressed that the commitment of the Government of Oaxaca and the will of the tourism service providers have made Oaxaca a “tip of launches for the economic reactivation of this sector nationally and internationally ”.
And they recognized that there is still a lot of potential that remains to be exploited because Oaxaca is still “a secret for the world”, so they committed to contribute to the dissemination of this destination and its sustainable use.
