OAXACA. – Faced with the omission of the Oaxaca city council, a group of environmentalists organized to rescue the Socrates Garden in the city of Oaxaca.
This space, which is located next to the municipal palace of Oaxaca, has become a space that crooks use to commit crimes, so it is avoided by the population.
However, this Sunday, environmentalists and a brigade of paramedics began cleaning the public space, as well as reforesting it, in order to restore its beauty and turn it into a place of family recreation.
The people gathered in the Socrates Garden began to make vines to plant plants and trees that were donated to them in order to rescue the place.
Neighbors of the place and snow vendors had publicly denounced since March that the Socrates Garden had been taken over by people to sleep in it, consume alcohol or drugs, and to relieve themselves, however, the Oaxaca city council allowed the space to continue in abandonment.
This Sunday, civil society undertook the task of rescuing the space located on Independencia Street, a few blocks from the Zócalo in Oaxaca.
The environmentalists indicated that in the next few days they will carry out the pruning of a tree whose branches hang over the street of Independencia since they represent a risk for motorists and pedestrians.
