The State Committee for Plant Health of Oaxaca (CESVO) estimates that 46% of the total cultivated area of coffee is affected by the CBB , an insect pest that attacks the fruits of this crop.

In the state, he specified, of the 130 thousand hectares that are cultivated with coffee , 60 thousand of them are affected by the CBB.


The main municipalities affected are Pluma Hidalgo, Candelaria Loxicha, Putla de Guerrero, Santa María Zacatepec, Santa María Chilchotla, Tanetze de Zaragoza, Valle Nacional and San Felipe Jalapa de Díaz.


In these populations there is a record of 4.6% average infestation per hectare, affecting more than 1,339 coffee producers. According
to the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety, and Quality, Oaxaca reports infestations ranging from 3.9% to 4.7% in 55 of its municipalities.
