438

An M5.5 (SSN) earthquake occurred around 11:17 a.m. (Local time) in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

This seismic event was perceived Moderately to Strongly in the Pinotepa Nacional region, in the south of the state of Oaxaca, and slightly in cities such as Puebla de Zaragoza and Mexico City.

This earthquake is probably a late replica of the earthquake of February 16, 2018, because it was in the same epicentral region, in addition to its coincident parameters, among others.

It is not considered a replica of the earthquake of June 23, 2020 from M7.4, since the distance between the two epicenters is significant. According to specialists, this quake is a replica of the earthquake of February 16, 2018 of M7.2

Due to its epicenter and preliminary parameters, this earthquake would correspond to the subduction mechanics that exist between the Coco Plate and North America, due to its proximity to this area where both tectonic plates interact.
