At the edge of collapse. This is the General Regional Hospital (HGR) Number 17 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), also known as ‘Specialties’ of the 510 Region of Cancun, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This situation forced the transfer of patients with other ailments and conditions to the General Hospital of the Area (HGZ) Number 3 on Cobá Avenue.
Also, shortly, the IMSS will determine whether or not to install an Inflatable Hospital in the parking area of HGR 17.
They deprive secrecy and tension among IMSS personnel.
In Cancun, COVID-19 records two of the four deaths reported by the State Health Services (Sesa); in total, according to the cut this Sunday, the holiday destination registers 58 of the 86 positive total cases of the entity.
That is, 68% of coronavirus patients in the eleven municipalities of Quintana Roo. Seven out of 10 infections occur in Cancun.
Hermetism, fear and tension deprive the medical, nursing, laboratory and even security personnel of the HGR 17.
An attitude that would sound “exaggerated” for the “only” 12 patients with COVID-19 reported by Sesa is under hospitalization at the IMSS.
Some of the relatives of those hospitalized for reasons other than the coronavirus are limited in their possibilities of communicating with doctors due to the protocols that prevent access to the ‘Specialties’ Hospital.
This causes that there is no certainty about what happens inside the HGR 17.
Inflatable Hospital, an option in the contingency
The IMSS will define in the next few hours whether or not to install an Inflatable Hospital in the parking area of HGR 17, this, in the face of the imminent collapse of medical services in the clinic.
As in other health institutions, the medical staff of the IMSS ‘Specialties’ Hospital stated on March 24 their disagreement with the lack of supplies to attend the contingency due to COVID-19.
